Siais laikais visi raso.
ReplyDeleteGali pats pasidaryti popieriu.
ReplyDeleteA written letter can be just as important as a incoming sms. Or a response to a blog post.
ReplyDeleteThe written letter words show more personality. It can be discerned in an email or sms, because we also in that strict text, we show ourselves.
The technology of miracle, which we are so fond of, many of us will forget how your own handwriting looks like.
Therefore are books so good to hold. Feel the paper in the hand, hear how the blade turn to next page. How the pen scratch the paper...that sound are as important to surf in cyberspace.
greeting barbro
ReplyDeleteBarbro, that's exactly my point, that written letter is more endearing and intimate than any e-mail or other modern technology mediated communication. Even the preparation to write a letter is extending the time you think about the person whom you are writing to.
Minis, I cant dispute that feeling. Paper and pen. On the other hand, there is, a feeling in writing via blog post, mail, since you usually get the answer the same day.
ReplyDeleteThe world shrinks with computers and broadband.
Barbro, yes, world shrank very much, and the thirst for instant gratification rose dramatically :)
ReplyDeleteThere was surely such "instant gratification", even when we didnt used computers.
ReplyDeleteNow, when we use these boxes, we sorround we more 'people'. But you can also ignore to give it....
Waiting isnt wrong. But on the other hand, hurry on when you shall.
Paradox as demand some learning.
Barbro, surely there was an urge for instant gratification before computers. I dare say, that this urgency drove technology development :)
ReplyDeleteWe do suround ourselves with much more people in a different way, but i think in these days one is noticing that not all relationships (especially ones on the internet) last long. The value of the relationships is going down due to spreading of the attention and extension in time.
The paradox as you described it is also as old as the world.
..."not all relationships (especially ones on the internet)last long."...
ReplyDeleteI cant fully agree with you. There is relation that last for an hour in reality. There is relation that last for years in cyber, be due to, which kind of connection, there is between people.
Cyberspace, in certain extent, mirror our everyday reality with subways, streets, jobs, family etc.
As much anonymity as there is in cyberspace. is in high-rise buildings or residential areas.
Barbro, maybe i was not entirely clear in my previous post. I did not mean that relationship in the internet is qualitatively different from real. It is exactly the same as i think we both agree. However i see that my relationships with some people in the internet last very short time, while some of the people i know for more than 7 years. Most of the commenters in this blog are people that i've never met, though i have privilege to converse with them for an extended period of time. It's just my blog is not long enough to show that.
ReplyDeleteHowever, in previous post i meant that i met many more "virtual" people with whom communication lasted short time than in real life. Therefore in my previous post i wrote that the internet relationships do not last long. My experience shows that statistically internet relationships last shorter.
I would second your opinion about the anonimity and add that even in suburbs in US it's prevalent.
