What is comming after post modern post industrial era, that we are living now. What will happen after this recession will be over (even though here in America we are somewhat over it already). The existentialist questions bother many people especially ones that have something to loose. Recently i have had an hour  (family, work, hobby etc.) of free time that i could go browsing Borders book store and stumbled upon some magazine. The title "Adbusters" was somewhat intriguing with funky artwork on the covers. So while having my coffee i start reading it and the initial article was interesting since it was dealing with the first question of direction art is taking. Finally i bought the magazine and looked-up their website. I was shocked - the magazine is of some revolutionary cult which decries consumerism and it is aiming at toppling "power structures" and forge a major shift in the way we will live in 21st century. All is fine and dandy until it comes to the toppling and having no plan for the future "power" structures. This sounds so familiar to many other revolutionary plans that it's disturbing. The other aspect of that magazine is loathing of individualism and praising all types of collectivism. My God, how that reminded me of my youth years in the best country Soviet Union. I was always reprimanded in school for solving problems in a different way than i was taught and many other interesting experiences of collectivism that demanded self denial for the sake of undefined society. The magazine somehow finds quite silly interview with some Chinese lady that talks of the nice times she had during chairman's Mao times when she had just two shirts and thought of how her life can change world. The life that she lives now (in America surprisingly) is so empty of ideals or aim that it seems just empty for her. In her eyes the capitalist (i assume she means more directly American) lifestyle is so empty that people here worry just what to buy and how to satisfy their desires for material things. Yes i do remember myself those times when i was dressed in my older brother's clothing and for a few years did not have anything that  was brand new (well OK i do exaggerate but somehow i do still think that it was the case or very close to that). I also remember times when during 1980's Olympic games in Moscow there was not enough food in stores and when it was brought to stores we had it rationed 2 loaves of bread per person. My family was quite big at that time and 2 loaves would go just for one day and it was not clear when the next time will come. So my mom took me to store that i as a person would also get 2 loaves - it was disturbing to stand in the line that was more than 100 persons and my mom would ask me not to talk to her that nobody would suspect that we were one family. It was quite intimidating for a boy not even a teen. But everything was for the good of society and achievement of the collective aim which was clear only to those who never experienced anything like that.

Anyway, i would urge anyone who would read this to put some thought in their actions if they really want to become lemmings of some people who would enjoy taking over any individualism that is remaining in this society. So please NO MORE of this ! I am not going to buy this magazine anymore and urge you to do the same (by the way they also urge people not to buy things from corporations and since the Borders is a huge book store chain, that would be kind of supporting their goals :)  and i will wait to see how Borders is going to keel over after me not buying that magazine :) Cheers!

After reading Albert's comment on my previous posting, i visited his blog and it was interesting to see how google translates his blog into English language. I thought that i would like to have this feature in my blog and after half an hour i had it running. However i found that English translation of my blog posts is ridiculously horrible. It's possible that it happens because i do not write using all Lithuanian characters (limiting my writing just to Latin, native Lithuanian speakers usually do not have problems reading this crippled text). So it appears that the technology is not at par when it comes to the translation.

Besides, i did try to post this message using e-mail from my new phone, however it did not work either. Anyway, it's good that companies are trying to develop these toys, though for the money they charge i would have expected better.
